For its birthday, fifteen years, the Ivo de Carneri Foundation organizes an evening dedicated to African music with the group Sinafrica, “Music from Africa – not to forget the diseases of poverty”. The event will allow to present the Foundation’s activities in the prevention and treatment of infectious and parasitic diseases and to raise funds for projects. The evening will be in Milan on October 21, at the 9.00  p.m., at the Leonardo da Vinci Theatre, Via Ampère 1. It’s open to anyone wishing to support the Foundation’s activities and to know the world of African culture.

The decision to celebrate fifteen years of activities with the music of the African continent represents the will to draw attention to this continent and the neglected tropical diseases, obstacles to the future of populations and countries. The neglected tropical diseases are infectious and parasitic diseases that mark the lives of over one billion people worldwide, causing suffering and disability. For many of these diseases, there are drugs, available and at affordable cost. The neglected tropical diseases affecting the poorest countries and peoples of the world, a burden not only on the population’s health but also on the economic and social development.
Since its birth, the commitment of the Ivo de Carneri Foundation is to promote projects on these diseases of poverty, with international cooperation, training and research. This includes the construction in Africa of the Public Health Laboratory Ivo de Carneri, for diagnosis and research on endemic diseases. Built on Pemba island (archipelago of Zanzibar, Tanzania), the Laboratory has been active since 2000 and integrated into the local health system.
