Global health and right to health

Insert in Courses the day April 8, 2009

Mind changing, start thinking at  health from a global perspective and promoting the teaching of global health in Italy and in the whole world. These are the topics of the International Conference: “Equal opportunities for health: action for development”. A plan of action to teach and advocate Global Health ((Padova, 3-4 April 2009), promoted by Doctors with Africa Cuamm. The Ivo de Carneri Foundation was represented at the Conference, by Dr Marco Albonico, General Secretary, and Dr Valeria Confalonieri, Scientific Communication.

The 150 participants to the Conference came from Europe, Africa and United States. After a plenary session, four working groups have been created to work on: teaching global health; life-long learning of health professionals on global health; role of international health cooperation (at which Dr Albonico and Dr Confalonieri participated); strategies for mobilizing and sustaining financial and human resources. With the inputs from different working groups, a common plan of action to fight inequalities of health and to promote global health and its teaching has been elaborated. Teaching focused not only on training of students, medical doctors and health workers but also of people with different jobs and careers, with new courses on global health,  promoting the relation with work in the field and the general awareness on inequality of health.

Training in global health to take the attention from the care of the disease and the patient to the global and social level: promoting health, a right for all.

Ivo de Carneri Foundation at the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health

Insert in Courses the day April 8, 2009

Tropical Medicine will have a leading role in Verona (Italy) for five days. This year, the 6th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health will be organized in Italy, 6-10 September 2009. The Ivo de Carneri Foundation is directly involved in the Congress, with the General Secretary Dr Marco Albonico as a member of the Local Organizing Committee. Further, some studies will be submitted as oral presentation or as poster, in the area of health cooperation, research and training activities of the Foundation.
The main themes of this 6th edition of the Congress are Equity, Human Rights and Access to Care. During five days different aspects of international health and tropical medicine will be discussed, among wich public health, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases and others. Areas where the Ivo de Carneri Foundation is working, together with the neglected populations, for 15 years, since its establishment.
